Look Keo Recall

Posted in Recalls by inahurry
Jul 07 2010

In 2008, LOOK issued a recall announcement for all LOOK KEO chromoly axle models manufactured prior to January 2006. The axle could potentially crack and break, posing a fall hazard. NOTE: The recall does not include Carbon Ti, HM Ti or other LOOK pedals.

Below is copied from http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08354.html

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: KéO Bicycle Pedals

Units: About 80,000 (40,000 pairs)

Distributor: Look Cycle USA, of San Jose, Calif.

Hazard: The steel axle inside the pedal can break, posing a fall hazard to cyclists.

Incidents/Injuries: Look Cycle has received 14 reports of incidents with broken pedals, including 7 injuries which resulted in scrapes, cuts, contusions, elbow pain, and a knee injury.

Description: The recalled bicycle pedals were sold separately from bicycles. Pedal models include KéO Classic, KéO Sprint, KéO HM and KéO Carbon. The model name is printed in white on the side of the pedal. Date codes between January 2004 and December 2005 are included in this recall. The date code for the KéO Classic, Sprint and Carbon pedals is on a dial stamped onto the pedal. The date code for the KéO HM is on the bottom of the pedal, with the letters A through L corresponding to the month, and the numbers 4 and 5 indicating 2004 or 2005. “Ti” pedals are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Specialty bicycle retailers nationwide from January 2004 through July 2007 for between $100 and $500.

Manufactured in: France

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycle pedals and return them to any authorized Look Cycle dealer, or contact Look Cycle USA to arrange for shipping and free repair.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Look Cycle USA toll-free at (866) 430-5665 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, visit the firm’s Web site at www.lookcycle-usa.com, or email the firm at KeoUpgrade@lookcycle-usa.com

Zipp Vuma Quad BB30 …not

I quote zipps web site “The 30mm aluminum spindle design, a first for external bearing crank sets, is stiff, durable, and compatible with the emerging BB30 bottom bracket standard.” This is total BS. We call Zipp and guess what they say? Our cranks are only compatible with threaded bb shells. What? Thanks for the mis-lead on your web site Zipp! BB 30 is not a threaded bottom bracket. BB 30 is a non threaded direct mount  crank/bottom bracket sytem. If we have to use adapters to make a BB 30 a threaded BB than why not run a threaded BB? Come on Zipp!

Bicycle Fitting Charges

Some times people will ask “why is a bike fitting is so much?”.

You’re not just paying for the bike fit but your paying for the 20 years it took me to fit you so well and efficiently.

I look at it this way.. You can go to a bike fitter that just went through a fit farm at Trek or Specialized or you can pay someone that really cares about and take pride in his work.

OK, this is a personal opinion but I’m sitting here watching Deepak Chopra commenting on the death of his good friend Michael Jackson. I can’t help but notice his diamond studded glasses. What the hell Deepak? You’re not Tupak your a damn Guru aren’t you? Did this materialistic world entice even you? Did you find spiritual enlightenment at Gucci?

Look Keo Fit Analysis

Look Keo Fit Analysis

I’ve been using the Look Keo FIT pedal stroke Analysis device for a week now. I must say I’m very impressed. The devise gives me a better reading on the correct amplitude (total float) and position for cleat placement. I have a half dozen test subjects out riding the adjusted cleat positions and so far they have had nothing but positive to say. I looks like i will be adding the service to my fit regimen. Stay tuned
